Laryngeal Nerve Anatomy and Reinnervation
This project began as an extension of a rushed thyroid illustration assignment that I wished I had more time to explore. What started as a personal curiosity evolved into a visual resource to support teaching the surgical techniques used in laryngeal reinnervation.
First, I created an anatomical diagram as a review of key neck structures. Next, I developed a visual sequence to illustrate the surgical steps used to restore the vocal cord function in patients with unilateral vocal fold paralysis, a condition of the larynx failing to receive neural signals from the recurrent laryngeal nerve.  In this procedure, the surgeon connects the intact section of the recurrent laryngeal nerve to another nerve, often the Ansa cervicalis.
